In this deleted scene from Red White & Blood, Cade is dispatched to find The Bloody Benders, a real-life family of serial killers. They owned a small one-room Inn along the Osage trail in Kansas. Many people who pulled up for a pit stop were never seen or heard from again.

Fans of the show Supernatural might remember Season 1 Episode 15 where the brothers Winchester went head-to-head with a family heavily based upon The Bloody Benders.

You literally cannot imagine living in a world where things like me-the ones that do not have to obey and protect you-are part of your everyday life. You try, in your movies and your stories. You rehearse the Apocalypse over and over. And all of those efforts are still too small. Too human to grasp what any of it would mean. Those stories still have heroes and hope. You cannot fathom what it would do to you, to actually live in that world. Could you kill your six-year-old child when she woke up with blood on her lips? What would you do when you found the place in your cellar where your husband stored human flesh? Could you do what it takes? You couldn’t, because if you did you would no longer be human. You’d be amputating your souls, one cut at a time, every day. You might continue to function-but only as monsters. You cannot live in that world. That’s why you have me. It would break you.

  • Cade:

It usually stays in one area. Usually limits itself to one hunting ground at a time. This is different.

  • Zach:

    Things change, I guess.

  • Cade:

    No. Not things like it.

  • Zach:

You've changed. You adapt. You improvise.

  • Cade:

Because it's in my nature to do so. It's not in the Boogeyman's.

  • Zach:

Apparently it is now. Oh, just so I know, does it have to attack someone who is having sex? Is that a rule I missed?

  • Cade:

Griff had a theory about that. He believed it hated sex because it hates life. Sex is the ultimate expression of life; it's what your species is designed for, and it's what most of your lives revolve around.

  • Zach:

You're one to talk. I've heard the echoes when Tania comes to visit you.

Cade seemed a little too sure of his conclusion from too little evidence. “Cade. If you knew something I didn’t, you’d tell me, right?”
“I know a lot of things you don’t, Zach. We don’t have that kind of time.”

He bared his fangs

The shock hit Barrows like a two-by-four in the face. He stumbled off the barstool and staggered backward.

‘Don’t try my patience, Mr. Barrows. Zach is under my protection. And his sentimental attachment to you means less than nothing to me. Do you understand?’

Frank Barrows didn’t say anything. He shook violently and opened his mouth without speaking. Then his eyes rolled up into his head and he fainted.

Cade looked at the man on the floor. His almost-smile flickered on his lips. ‘I’ll take that as a yes.’
